OLNEY
John “Sparky” Fuchs, 87, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022. Formerly of Montague City, MA, the son of Henry and Belle Fuchs. John graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1953 with honors joining the Navy in 1955 attaining the rank of Sonarman Oceanographer First Class. In 1963, after earning a BS in Electrical Engineering from University of MA, John entered federal service with the Department of the Navy as a Program Engineer. He spent over 38 years in component and systems engineering and engineering program management specializing in underwater and airborne acoustics, submarine and surface ship noise reduction, analysis, and acquisition. Of that time, he was employed with Naval Sea Systems Command as well as other government contractors constructing and/or designing underwater and airborne acoustic sensors and submarine systems. After retirement from federal service, John became an independent contractor with ManTech fully retiring in 2001.
John was a BSA Scoutmaster for six years, volunteered for community noise control in Montgomery County, MD, enjoyed family, woodworking, home improvement and travel especially to Kauai with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn, “chickee”, son John Jr. with wife Vicki, daughter Sharon and husband Rob, granddaughters Britney and Paige, grandsons Jason and Kyle, two great grandchildren, sister Alice and her five children and their families.
Celebration of life will be in Maryland on Monday, October 17, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org- in honor/memorial.
