Students have higher graduation, employability through JAG

INDIANAPOLIS – Students who participate in Jobs for America’s Graduates are more likely to graduate and earn a job, according to a press release from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

JAG’s achievements for the 2021-22 school year include a 94% graduation rate (national goal is 90%), 85% employment rate (national goal is 80%) and 69% job placement rate, including military (national goal is 60%). Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and Eastern Hancock schools have JAG programs. The state-based, national non-profit organization helps “high school students of promise who have experienced challenging or traumatic life experiences achieve success through graduation,” according to the press release.

Statehouse paid internships available

INDIANAPOLIS – College students and graduates may apply for paid spring semester internships at the Indiana Statehouse.

Local Reps. Bob Cherry and Chris Jeter, and Sen. Mike Crider recently announced the internships, which are open to qualified candidates of any major that are at least college sophomores. Recent college graduates and law students are also encouraged to apply. Positions include communications, information technology, legal, legislative, page and policy offices during the 2023 legislative session.

Jr. high to host family literacy event

GREENFIELD – A Family Literacy Night is planned for Greenfield Central Junior High School students, staff and families. The open house style event is 6-8 p.m. Sept. 14 at the school. The event will include a book fair, a take-home free book and homework pass, literacy games, door prizes and more, and is sponsored by Greenfield Central School Foundation.

College, career fair planned

GREENFIELD – A college and career fair will be 6-7:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds.

The event is sponsored by Hancock County LINK. Scholarship information by the Hancock County Community Foundation will be presented at 6:15 and 7 p.m.

GC foundation gala Sept. 24

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Central School Foundation’s Red Letter Gala is planned for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept 24 at Adaggios, 5999 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield. The event will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, dinner, and a program including the induction of the 2022 Hall of Fame.

An individual ticket is $60 and sponsorship levels are available. Reserve a spot by Friday, Sept. 16 at gcschoolfoundation.com/red-letter-gala.

Greece, Italy trip info meeting set

GREENFIELD– Greenfield-Central High School families interested in learning more about a student trip to Italy and Greece in Fall 2024 are invited to an informational meeting coming up next month.
