Community Good Friday service set

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Ministerial Association will present a Good Friday service at noon Friday at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road.

Various clergy members who are part of the association will be part of the service.

Churches gather at Wilkinson

WILKINSON — A community Good Friday service is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Wilkinson Church of Christ. Ben Dilworth, pastor of Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church, will speak.

The service is presented by the Community Ministerial Alliance. The other five churches in the seven-member alliance are Shirley Church of the Nazarene, Christ Fellowship Church, Shirley Friends Church, Warrington Church of the Nazarene and Grant City Wesleyan Church.

Bradley presents cantata

GREENFIELD — Bradley United Methodist Church’s choir will present an Easter cantata in the church’s services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Eden to serve breakfast

EDEN — Eden United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on April 4.

A free-will offering will be accepted for local and global mission work.

World Renewal names officers

GREENFIELD — World Renewal International, a faith-based humanitarian organization with headquarters in Hancock County, has appointed Donna Franklin as vice president of operations and Joe Skvarenina as vice president of fund development.

“We are excited to have Donna and Joe join our staff,” said Gary Wright, president of World Renewal. “We have grown quickly since moving to Hancock County in 1998. We now have staff presence in 30 countries building churches, schools and orphanages. Our desire is to help the global church fulfill the Great Commission by developing Spirit-filled, self-reproducing leaders and churches. We believe they bring significant experience to our growing organization and ministry.”

Skvarenina has a master’s degree from Kent State University, a teaching certificate from Concordia University and a fundraising certificate from IUPUI Center for Philanthropy. He has served in fundraising for various organizations and ministries for 38 years. He is also the historian for Hancock County and author of several books and a weekly column in the Daily Reporter.

Franklin served in the banking industry for 34 years. The daughter of the Rev. Robert and Bernice Wright, she grew up in Hancock County and attended Mt.Vernon. She is completing her leadership degree from Barclay College-Brandywine Campus and studied business at the University of Indianapolis.

World Renewal is located at 206 S. County Road 850E. It serves several of the local congregations of Hancock County, such as Brandywine Community Church and Brookville Road Community Church, as a mission agency.

Chicken noodle dinner planned

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Charlottesville United Methodist Church will serve a chicken and noodle dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on April 25 at the Charlottesville Lions Club Community Building in Charlottesville.

Prayers for healing part of service

MT.COMFORT — A special Palm Sunday Service of prayer, music and prayers for healing will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary of Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church.

The service format will follow the official Service of Healing and Wholeness as designed by The Upper Room of Nashville, Tennessee. The public is invited.

Sessions to help parents, child care workers

GREENFIELD — The “Empowered to Connect” conference will be simulcast April 10 to 11 at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E. New Road.

The conference is designed to help parents and others who work with children to bring hope and healing to children who have been adopted or are in foster care. It features the trust-based parenting methods from Texas Christian University’s Institute of Child Development. One of the speakers will be Dr. Karyn Purvis, author of “The Connected Child.”

New Life plans blood drive

FORTVILLE — New Life Christian Fellowship will play host to a Lenten blood drive by Indiana Blood Center from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Gospel concerts come to Knightstown

KNIGHTSTOWN — The Vintage Gospel Lads will be in concert April 10 to 12 at the Knightstown First Christian Church.

The free concerts begin at 7 p.m. each day. The group also will be in concert with a special message on April 12 at 10:30 a.m.

Members of the group include Murray Hollis of Joplin, Missouri; Steve Kehrer of Mooresville; Ron Rasmussen of Yukon, Oklahoma; Jon Stedman of South San Francisco, California; plus Murray’s daughter, Tammy Cady, and Ron’s son, Adam Rasmussen.

The Gospel Lads have revived interest in a foot-stomping, hand-clapping style of music captivating to people of all ages.

The public is invited to all the free concerts. The church is located at 138 W. Main St. in Knightstown. For further information, call 765-345-2854.

Mt. Lebanon plans Spud Supper

BRANDYWINE TOWNSHIP — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9, will play host to its annual Spud Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. on April 18.

The menu will include a baked potato bar with toppings, salads, desserts and beverages. Hot dogs and carry-out also will be available.  A free-will offering will be accepted, with proceeds used for missions.

Auction to aid several groups

GREENFIELD — An old-fashioned country auction will benefit World Renewal International, Love INC and Friends of Recovery-Women’s Sober House, Talitha Koum.

The auction is set for 6 p.m. April 30 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The proceeds will be divided equally between the three groups. Another Addison Auction will provide the auctioneer services.

Organizers are collecting new, slightly used, collectible or antique items (no clothes, please) for the auction. All donated items are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

‘Mr. Drama’ coming to Calvary

GREENFIELD — Actor Trevor Thomas, “Mr. Drama,” will appear at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 p.m. April 26.

Church commissions Stephen Ministers

Five members of the Wilkinson Church of Christ commissioned March 15 as Stephen Ministers, a special ministry of care and concern for others. 

They have completed 50 hours of extensive training and preparation through the Stephen Series, a program developed by Stephen Ministries of St. Louis.

They will now be assigned to minister in the congregation and community, working with people who are experiencing such life crises as hospitalization, retirement issues, financial setbacks, loss of a loved one or any number of other difficulties people face in daily living.
