The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations.

The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Feb. 18

Marsh Supermarket

Location: 1240 N. State St., Greenfield.

Type of inspection: Routine.

Violations: NC/R—hand sinks all need to reach a minimum of 100 degrees; deli by chicken prep, seafood area and meat-cutting area (customer service), 120 days; C—dish machine not hot enough to sanitize, needs to reach 180 degrees, use 3-compartment sink until repaired, corrected.

Hey Café

Location: 1002 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Type of inspection: Routine.

Violations: NC—ice scoop needs to be stored on clean surface, and if in ice bin, handle needs to be above ice, corrected; NC/R—Sanitizer bucket needs to be set up in kitchen, do not have towels lying on counters, corrected; C/R—no certified food handler has signed up for class, 45 days; NC—clean floors and walls under and behind equipment, clean legs of equipment and parts of equipment (tables, racks, etc.) that have grease/grime build-up, 90 days.

Feb. 19

Penn Station East Coast Subs

Location: 1667 N. State St., Greenfield.

Type of inspection: Routine.

Violations: C—need to have health policy available, go over with employees periodically, 45 days; C—surfaces of utensils and equipment contacting potentially hazardous food need to be cleaned throughout the day every four hours. Slicer bowls holding ready-to-eat and raw meats unless stored must be refrigerated, corrected; NC—single-service articles (cups) shall be displayed and dispensed to prevent contamination of food and lip contact surfaces, store partially cooked fries in refrigeration during slow periods, 120 days.

Feb. 20

The Sweet Shop

Location: 1309 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Type of inspection: Routine.

Violations: NC—clean floors under 3-compartment sink, in corners and along wall/floor juncture where grease and grime have accumulated, walls; NC—continue to clean outsides of equipment where grease has built up (cabinet in front of fryer, outsides of containers used to store flour).

Waffle House

Location: 1752 N. State St., Greenfield.

Type of inspection: Routine.

Violations: NC—need to provide thin tip thermometer for thin meat patties; NC—post permit in public view; NC/R—need to provide test strips for sanitizer.
