Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 900 block of North Broadway Street in Greenfield at around 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6. Greenfield Police Lt. Matt Holland said smoke and flames were coming out of the house’s eaves on both ends upon first-responders’ arrival, adding firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. Everyone in the house made it out safely. Steve Kropacek, fire marshal for the Greenfield Fire Territory, said one of the house’s rooms and its attic had fire damage and that there was smoke and water damage throughout the house. The cause remained under investigation on Tuesday. (Mitchell Kirk | Daily Reporter)
