CUMBERLAND — Officials have created a board to lead the town’s parks and recreation efforts.
The town previously had a parks advisory council, but determined having a board would help it better pursue parks and recreation-related grants.
Cumberland Town Council earlier this month voted unanimously to create the board and appoint to it the same members as the now-dissolved advisory council — Angela Waggoner, Joanna Johnson, Brenda Gaston and Joni Curtis.
The board will have its own budget and spending authority. It will continue duties it carried out as an advisory council, including providing advice on the development and management of parks; developing long-term plans for park facilities and recreational programs; preparing an annual report with recommendations on capital improvements; recommending park rules; and helping ensure parks are kept safe.
