HANCOCK COUNTY — Two more county residents have died from the novel coronavirus, bringing the number of fatalities reported for the week to nine.
A total of 97 county residents are now known to have died from COVID-19.
The people whose deaths were reported Friday were both age 80 or older and occurred on Jan. 14, according to the Indiana State Department of Health. One was a man and one was a woman.
At least one COVID-19 death for Hancock County has been reported every day since Jan. 12.
The county added 78 known cases of the virus Friday, raising that total to 6,296. Another 706 tests brought that total to 73,491. Hancock County’s seven-day positivity rates from Jan. 2 to 8 were 16.4% for all tests and 26.4% for unique individuals. Cumulative rates are 10.3% for all tests and 17.2% for unique individuals.
Hancock Regional Hospital reported Friday that it was treating 14 COVID-19 patients.
Indiana added 42 COVID-19 deaths Friday, raising its total to 8,872; and 4,744 cases, bringing that amount to 583,160.
As of early Friday, 4,287 Hancock County residents had received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 843 had been fully vaccinated. Statewide, almost 260,000 had gotten a first dose and almost 53,000 had been fully vaccinated.
