Royals volleyball advances into semifinals
The Eastern Hancock volleyball team survived a five-set thriller on Tuesday night at home against rival Shenandoah to advance into Saturday’s sectional semifinal round.
The Royals defeated the visiting Raiders 25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 20-25, 15-10.
Eastern Hancock’s 3-2 victory during the Class 2A Sectional 41 quarterfinals over Shenandoah gave the host Royals some revenge after being shutout 3-0 by the Raiders on Sept. 5 during the regular season.
The Royals snapped a three-game losing streak in the process on Tuesday to improve to 10-18 on the season.
Eastern Hancock will host Union County (18-12) in the semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The second semifinal game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. pits the winners from today’s quarterfinals opponents Knightstown vs. Hagerstown and Centerville vs. Northeastern.

Local teen to pilot car for Brad Hayes Racing
McCordsville teen, Ayrton Houk, will pilot an F1600 car for Brad Hayes Racing, a team located in Pendleton, at the SCCA 2020 Ohio Valley Region Autumn Classic race being held at Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course on Oct. 17-18.
Ayrton first joined BHR virtually back in April. When the whole racing community shifted to iRacing during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ayrton joined BHR to run in the FRP iRacing Challenge.
Since then, Ayrton has been working closely with the team to move from the virtual seat in to the real seat of one of the team’s Piper DL7 F1600 cars.
That move will happen for the first time at the upcoming Mid Ohio event. While it is a race weekend, the team is treating it more as a test session.
The overall goal for this first weekend will be to allow Ayrton to gain confidence in the car, build chemistry with the team, and set the foundation for the 2021 race season.
