County adds 2 COVID-19 deaths

HANCOCK COUNTY — Two Hancock County residents recently died from COVID-19, the Indiana State Department of Health reported Monday and over the weekend, raising the county’s death toll to 41.

One of the fatalities was a woman in her 50s who died on Aug. 13, according to the state health department’s online COVID-19 dashboard. The other was a man in his 70s who died on Aug. 16.

The former was the county’s second COVID-19 death in the 50-59 age group. Since the pandemic began, four victims have been in their 60s, nine in their 70s and 26 were age 80 or older.

The state health department also reported Monday one new COVID-19 case for the county on Aug. 16, raising that total to 720. Another 109 administered tests for county residents between May 23 and Aug. 16 brought that total to 11,723. The county’s positivity rate is 6.1%, and its seven-day positivity rate between Aug. 4 and 10 is 6.9%.

For Indiana, the state health department reported 7,829 new individuals tested and 12,745 new tests administered between May 23 and Aug. 16, 603 new cases between Aug. 8 and 16, a seven-day positivity rate of 8.1% between Aug. 4 and 10 and six new deaths between Aug. 12 and 16.

Statewide COVID-19 totals stood at 914,633 individuals tested, 1,175,330 tests administered, 81,006 positive cases, an 8.9% positivity rate and 2,926 deaths.
