Mrs. Phyllis Ann Kirts Barnard, 80, of Kurtz, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Hoosier Christian Village. Born April 19,1940, in Brown County, Indiana she was raised by parents Melvin and Esther Mullins Kirts. Her birth mother was Bertha Louise (Mitchener) Kirts. Phyllis married Marcus Barnard in Rockport on May 18, 1958. He preceded her in death in 2016.

Phyllis was employed at the Vallonia State Tree Nursery for 32 years. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed having a vegetable garden and canning the vegetables for the whole family. Phyllis especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren

She is survived by her children; Melvin (Sonja) Barnard, Marcia (Greg) Hatton, and Vivian (Dave) Begley; sisters, Gail Wilson, Amy (Robert) Price and Joyce Luesby; grandchildren, Duane (Amber) Barnard, Marcus (Amanda) Barnard, Christopher Barnard, Jennifer (Shawn) Wilson, Kellie (Adam) Walters, Matthew Begley, Ryan (Jennifer) Hatton, Tyler (Alyssa) Hatton, and Bryce Hatton; several great grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters in laws; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; birth mother; husband; sisters, Josephine Ruth, Barbara Kay Kirts; and Clara Roll; brothers; Marvin Kirts, Gary Kirts and Wally Mullins.

A private funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour on Monday, June 29, 2020 with Father Dan Staublin officiating, assisted by Deacon Mike East. Burial will follow at Kurtz Cemetery.

A public visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday June 28, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Voss & Sons Funeral Service. A Rosary prayer service will be conducted on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 1:45 p.m. Due to the Covid-29 pandemic, face masks are required.

Memorials may be given to St. Ambrose Catholic Church/School or Kurtz Nazarene Church.
