HANCOCK COUNTY — Local funeral director David Stillinger piled up a lopsided win in his re-election bid for coroner on Tuesday, winning nearly two-thirds of the vote against Joe Fortner in the GOP primary.

Stillinger received 5,243 votes to 2,842 for Fortner.

Stillinger, owner of Stillinger Family Funeral Home, staked his campaign this year on his experience as both a coroner and a businessman, saying he strives to run the coroner’s office like a business. He also touted changes he had made in the office after the troubled tenures of predecessors.

Fortner, a longtime first-responder and currently the emergency medical services coordinator at Hancock Regional Hospital, was making his fourth run for the office.

A story with reaction from the candidates will appear in the Thursday, June 4, print edition of the Daily Reporter.
