GREENFIELD — A breast milk drive is taking place Monday to provide milk for infants throughout Hancock and eastern Marion counties.

The drive-up collection is being hosted by Hancock Regional Hospital and The Milk Bank, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit dedicated to expanding the consumption of breast milk for all babies, especially premature and ill infants.

The low-contact, drive-up milk drive will enable donors to complete the required blood test and drop off a donation in one visit.

“The Milk Bank has re-imagined milk drives in a way that is convenient and safe for their donors. If you have extra breast milk and want to clear out your freezer,” please register, said Diane Wade, outreach coordinator for the nonprofit.

Donations are by appointment only at the Hancock Health Gateway Imaging Center in Mt. Comfort, just off I-70 at Mt. Comfort Road.

“We look forward to welcoming new donor moms from east Indy to Greenfield, from McCordsville to New Palestine, and beyond,” said the nonprofit’s executive director, Freedom Kolb.

The drive-through collection method was designed to give donors piece of mind amid COVID restrictions.

Potential donors must pre-register online at themilkbank.org/donordrive. A donor coordinator will then call to schedule an appointment.

This is the second drive-up milk drive for the nonprofit, which aims to encourage breastfeeding mothers and provide pasteurized donor human milk for any infant or child with medical necessity.

Monday’s donation drive takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gateway Imaging Center, at 6189 W. John L. Modglin Drive in Greenfield.
