GREENFIELD
James L. Ashley, age 76, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Greenfield Healthcare Center. He was born in Elwood, Indiana on December 6, 1943 to Robert and Naomi (Granger) Ashley. He graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1962. Mr. Ashley received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1994. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam in 1964-1973. He married Kathy Brown on May 4, 1974.
He worked for numerous Main Frame Computer Companies as a Field Service Engineer for several years. Mr. Ashley was a member of the American Legion Post #119, VFW #2683, and Fishers Church of Christ. James enjoyed photography, fishing, history and trivia, John Wayne movies and memorabilia, and studying his Ancestry.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Greenfield; son, Mike (April) Ashley of Greenfield; daughter, Rachel (George) Hewitt of Indianapolis; sisters, Linda (Phil) Pratt and Teri Renna, both of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Megan, Caleb, Connor, and Ashton; and a loyal dog, Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Naomi Ashley; brother, Rick Ashley; and sister, Traci Ashley.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Lanny Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military rites presented by the United States Air Force and Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
