New theater troupe for high school students to hold auditions
NEW PALESTINE – SmartyPants Productions will hold auditions for a spring production, "Sneakypete Underhand’s Devious Dealings or The Doctor is In(sane)!" from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Sugar Creek Branch Library, 5731 W. U.S. Highway 52. Auditions for this madcap melodrama are open to youth in grades 9 through 12. Roles are available for five male and four female actors, plus extras. Sneakypete Underhand, a villainous doctor, and his henchwoman, nurse Heide Bedpann, are on the loose. The devious duo fake their deaths while in jail and escape from the morgue to continue their lives of crime — this time in Hollywood. There they are hired to work at a silent movie studio where Sneakypete hatches a plot to kidnap a top star, Verily Speakwell. Performance dates are May 1, 2 and 3 at the H.J. KidsPlay to audition for “Over My Dead Body”
GREENFIELD — KidsPlay, Inc. children’s theatre will hold auditions for 3rd through 8th graders for its spring production of “Over My Dead Body” from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 14 for returning KidsPlayers and Jan. 16 for new auditioners at the Memorial Building, 98 E. North St. In a desperate attempt to become a member of Harriet Hammer’s posh country club, Sybil Chasteen invites Ms. Hammer to a formal dinner party on the same day that she discovers a dead body in the trunk of her new car. While Sybil waits impatiently for the authorities, the corpse, nicknamed Mr. X, sits propped up on her sofa. The police, distracted by a few other cases, finally arrive only to find Sybil’s life spiraling out of control in this door-slamming, phone ringing murder-mystery parody that includes backstage rim shots, witty one-liners and a backyard wedding. Parts are available for 24 speaking roles and 12 dancers. New auditioners should come prepared with an audition monologue of one minute or less. Rehearsals for the production will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Performance dates are April 17, 18 and 19. GREENFIELD – Kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade can meet at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, from 4 to 5 p.m. Jan. 8 for Lego Mania.
