Cougars win tourney in overtime
Greenfield-Central won its Kickin’ Cancer Tournament on Saturday, defeating Lawrence North, 2-1 in overtime, for the championship.
Kelsi McLaughlin scored both goals in the finale. She tied the game with a goal at the 7:30 mark of the second half. The game-winner came with four minutes to play in the first overtime.
After a 0-0 tie at the half, Greenfield-Central beat Shortridge 6-0 to advance to the championship match.
Courtney Vaughn broke the scoreless tie at the 37-minute mark of the second half.
Dragons score 12 goals
Olivia Murphy scored three goals to lead New Palestine to a 12-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference win Saturday over Delta.
Anna Luker had two goals in the home match. Other goals were scored by Lydia Sams, Sydney Miller, Lucy Miller, Edin Hurst, Addie Halter, Maggie Murphy and Cate Black.
Luker and Halter had two assists each. Other assists went to Sydney Miller, Izzie Myers, Murphy and Black.
New Palestine in 6-4-2 on the season and 2-3 in the HHC. Delta dropped to 7-4 and 2-3 in the conference.

Marauders split matches
Mt. Vernon went 1-1 in the Marauder Classic on Saturday.
The Marauders beat Bishop Chatard 3-1 and lost to Plainfield 2-0.
Spencer Linder, Jacob Knepper and Logan Angelopulos had goals for Mt. Vernon in the win over Chatard. Noah Whitehouse and Angelopulos had assists.
Mt. Vernon is 5-6 on the season.
Dragons lose to Delta
New Palestine dropped a 3-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference decision Saturday at Delta.
The Dragons are 1-9-1 overall and 0-6 in the HHC.
Girls cross-country
Brinkruff wins at Yorktown
Greenfield-Central’s girls’ cross country team finished sixth out of 14 teams in the Jim Leffler Invitational, held in Yorktown.
Audrey Brinkruff won the race, which included 80 runners. Brinkruff finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:19.
Reagan Crouch (36th, 24:02) and Olivia Wahl (37th, 24:03), followed for the Cougars.
Others involved in the team score included Emma Leininger (44th, 24:41) and Emily Wright (56th, 26:23)
Willis finishes second
Ashton Willis, the lone girls runner for the Royals, finished second overall at the Eastern Hancock Invitational Saturday.
Willis finished the 5,000 meters in 23:26.31.
Dragons place 14th
New Palestine placed 14th out of 17 teams, scoring 337 points, in the Riverview Health Invitational, hosted by Westfield, on Saturday.
Brenna Shaw led NP runners with a 29th place run (19:39.10).
Other Dragon team scorers were: Emma Mann (33rd, 19:48.78), Emily Adam (112th, 21:38.52), Kaylin Casner (122th, 21:54.30), Caitlin Urrutia (134th, 22:16.82), Megan Collins (157th, 23:32.07), and Emily Santelik, (160th, 23:55.05).
Boys cross-country
G-C finishes second at Leffler
Greenfield-Central earned a second-place finish, out of 13 teams, in the Jim Leffler Invitational, held in Yorktown.
G-C scored 89 points. Lawrence North won with 32.
Conner Kinnaman (4th, 16:53) and Jonah Fletcher (14th, 17:54) earned top 20 spots and picked up medals for their performances.
Other scorers for the Cougars were, Jacob Presser (22th, 18:18), Lucas Tutrow (23rd, 18:26) and Micah Smith (26th, 18:45)
Royals finish second at EH invite
Eastern Hancock placed second of seven teams at Saturday’s Eastern Hancock Invitational. The Royals scored 45 points. Hagerstown won with 27.
Daniel Campbell (18:03.47) and Nick Edwards (18:16.81) led the Royals by finishing second and third, respectively.
Other Royals runners included, Skyler Sexton (12th, 20:00.47), Danny Salafranca (13th, 20:01.81), Westin Bishop (15th, 20:32.44), Garrett Henderson (20th, 21:20.20) and Luke McCartney (21st, 21:32.52).
Whitaker leads NP runners
Devon Whitaker led the way for New Palestine, finishing 65th at the Riverview Health Invitational, hosted by Westfield on Saturday.
Whitaker finished the 5,000-meter race in 17:11.31. NP was 17th out of 17 teams in the event, scoring 447 points.
Other NP scoring runners included, Colin Darley (119th, 18:03.77), Josh Ackerman (142nd, 18:24.15), Carson Sams (147th, 18:41.66), Hayden Isaacs (153rd, 18:55.78), Owen Kleine (165th, 19:17.37) and Connor Lapenta, (174th, 19:53.75).
Volleyball
Cougars drop pair in tri-match
In a tri-match at Greenfield-Central on Saturday, the Cougars were defeated by Cathedral and Noblesville
Both matches were 3-1.
Against Cathedral, G-C lost by set scores of 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16
Ava Antic and Makayla Price had 14 kills apiece. Marissa Grigsby had 15 digs. Price had 12.
The Cougars lost 25-17, 25-19, 19-25, 25-21 to Noblesville. Antic had 12 kills and Price added 11.
Greenfield-Central is 12-7 on the season.
