Marauders fall to Yorktown
Mt. Vernon took on defending state champion and No. 1-ranked Yorktown on Thursday, becoming the first team this season to take a set from the Tigers before falling, 25-23, 15-25, 15-25, 11-25.
Victoria Bulmahn led the Marauders with 28 assists. Claire Ertel had 13 kills and two aces. Cecilia Bulmahn had 10 kills, and Sophie Schultz led the defense with 12 digs.
The Marauders take on a pair of ranked foes, Hamilton Southeastern and Westfield, today.
Cougars swept by champs
Greenfield-Central lost on the road at defending state champion New Castle on Thursday, 25-19, 25-11, 25-17.
Junior outside hitter Makayla Price led the way with 11 kills but Ava Antic was close behind with eight for the Cougars.
The Cougars are next in action Tuesday at Mt. Vernon.

Dragons fall in HHC tilt
New Palestine dropped a 4-0 decision Thursday at home against Shelbyville.
The Dragons are back in action Tuesday at Greenwood.

Marauders move to 11-1
Mt. Vernon took on host Shelbvyille on Thursday, picking up another conference win to improve to 11-1 on the year with a 3-2 victory.
The Marauders won all three singles positions. Haiden Rose won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Chris Hays won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and Reece Powell won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
The Marauders will compete in today’s county tournament at 9 a.m. at New Palestine.
Girls golf
Dragons drop Shelbyville
New Palestine posted a 166-192 victory Thursday at Shelbyville.
Megan Diller was match medalist, shooting a career-best 39. Annaliese Fox shot 40, Michaela Purnell 43 and Izzy Gray 44.
The Dragons return to the River’s Edge course in Shelbyville at 2 p.m. today for the HHC meet.
Marauders split tri match
Mt. Vernon finished second in a triple dual on Thursday, shooting a 183 to finish behind Lapel’s 163 and ahead of Yorktown’s 184.
The Marauders were led by Alaina Nugent with a 39 and Mackenzie Miner shooting her season low of 44.
Royals miss by 1 stroke
Eastern Hancock narrowly fell in a tri match on Thursday, shooting a 212 to finish one stroke behind Edinburgh’s 211 but well ahead of Morristown’s 273.
Daly Pelger led the Royals with a 51. Haleigh Cavaletto was right behind with a 52 and Jocelyn Duncan had a 53. Shelby Jackson added a 56, Inez Friddle had a 68 and Hunter Orr shot a 70.
