One-woman show coming to the Ricks

GREENFIELD — “Digging in Their Heels,” a one-woman show about the 70-year struggle for women to get the vote in the United States, comes to the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St., at 7 p.m. Sept. 21. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Dr. Sally Perkins, a renowned storyteller and public speaking professor at Butler University, brings the story to life in a one-hour performance in celebration of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. ‘Steel Magnolias’ opens this weekend

LAWRENCE — “Steel Magnolias,” opening Sept. 13 at Mud Creek, is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Filled with hilarious repartee, acerbic wit and verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy and the sudden realization of mortality affects the ladies but also draws on the underlying strength and love. “Steel Magnolias” runs through Sept. 28. GREENFIELD — Greenfield-Central Drama presents its children’s show, “Jack and the Giant Beanstalk,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 26-28 in the auditorium at Greenfield-Central High School, 810 N. Broadway.
