Mt. Vernon senior competes in Meet of Champions

Braxton Trittipo, a senior track athlete and football player at Mt. Vernon, competed in the Midwest Meet of Champions last weekend at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. 

Trittipo ran a 22.3 leg of the 4×200 relay team he was on, which finished in 1:29.82, good for third place against teams from Ohio and Michigan. He was teamed with Romeo Echols of Beech Grove, Ty Shannon of Warren Central and Lex Logan of Greenwood. 

The Marauders senior was named to the Meet of Champions after breaking a 55-year old school record in the 400-meter dash and winning a sectional championship. He will run next year with teammate Brent Donaldson at Purdue at Ft. Wayne.

County tennis players earn all-state honors

Four individuals and two county teams were honored by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association at the conclusion of the girls tennis season.

Mt. Vernon sophomore Lydia Ruegsegger and New Palestine junior Megan Long both earned all-state honorable mention, while the Dragons No. 1 doubles duo of Claire Cherry and Josee King, both seniors, also earned honorable mention.

New Palestine and Mt. Vernon both earned Academic All-State Team distinctions.

5v5 basketball tournament set for Friday

A group of Mt. Vernon athletes have put together a winner-take-all basketball tournament scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday at Riley Park in Greenfield.

Seniors Peyton Meadors, Max Burhenn and Sam McCarty planned the event, which is a 5v5 tournament that is open to any boys players from the county or Hoosier Heritage Conference that are in high school or older. Buy-in to compete is $20 per team.

The goal of the tournament is simple — the trio hopes to bring people from around the county together to have a fun day of playing basketball.

Athletic Boosters set annual Go-Kart Fundraiser

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters fourth annual Go-Kart Racing Fundraiser will be conducted on July 9 at New Castle Motorsports Park.

Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m., with racing to start at 5 p.m. The cost for the event is $500 for a team of four. Pre-registration is encouraged, as the number of participants is limited.

Spring players of the year to be revealed soon

The spring sports Players of the Year for Hancock County will be unveiled soon, starting Saturday with the Girls Tennis Player of the Year.

Here is the tentative schedule of when you will see each sport represented in the Daily Reporter.

Saturday: Girls Tennis

Tuesday: Girls Track

Wednesday: Boys Track

Thursday: Boys Golf

Friday: Softball (plus all-county team)

Saturday: Baseball (plus all-county team)
