To the editor:

The Greenfield Sertoma Club wants to thank the community for its contributions to Santa’s Helpers to clothe children in need. Your contributions allowed families to purchase $85 of clothing for each child, with 144 Hancock County children served this year. Shopping was done at the Greenfield Walmart, which has been a good partner with Santa’s Helpers.

Santa’s Helpers was formed in 1948 by representatives of local service clubs. Over the years, the organization was operated by various groups that carried on the original mission to aid families in need. In 2001, the Greenfield Sertoma Club assumed the administration of Santa’s Helpers as part of its charitable activities. Greenfield Sertoma pays all the operating costs for Santa’s Helpers, so 100 percent of all contributions benefit children of Hancock County.

Greenfield Sertoma and other local organizations that serve families came together to form the Hancock County Christmas Connection. This group identified students and matched needy families with individual sponsors or community resources with the goal of serving every family in need during the holiday season. Many thanks to the school counselors and other agencies that worked to establish and implement this program.
