Ruth E. (Harmon) Watjen, 83, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on August 6, 1928, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Ed and Inez (Huntington) Harmon. She married William C. Watjen on April 10, 1948 in Indianapolis.
Ruth worked for Lawrence Township Schools as an Assistant Manager in the cafeteria for 27 years before retiring in 1994. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and loved sports; she especially loved cheering on the Colts, Pacers, and both IU and Purdue basketball and football teams.
Surviving her are her children, Sandi (Gary) Wilfley of New Palestine, and Michael (June) Watjen of Boonville; brothers, Ed Harmon of Lawrence, and Jim Harmon of Holiday, Fla.; sisters, Loretta White of Greenfield, Edna Rice of Indianapolis, and Truth (Connie) Jordan of Fishers; four grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Wilfley, Michael (Tami) Watjen, Beth (Matt) Rashleigh and Josh (Amanda) Watjen; two step-grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Brooks and Mandy(Anthony) Thomas; six great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ed and Inez Harmon; husband, William Watjen; and sister, Waneta Rice.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. also at the mortuary. Pastor Mark Havel will be officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
