IHSAA softball draw will set sectional field

The sectional draw for the 31st Annual IHSAA Softball State Tournament Draw is Thursday at 8 a.m.

Sectionals are May 25 to 30. Times will be determined by host school and posted online at ihsaa.org shortly after the draw. Admission is $6 per session; $9, all sessions.

The local sectional fields, with state class ranking if applicable:

Class 4A Sectional 9 at Mt. Vernon (seven teams): Anderson, Connersville, No. 12 Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, No. 23 New Castle, No. 19 Pendleton Heights, Richmond.

The winner of Sectional 9 will visit the winner of Sectional 10 for a one-game regional, June 2.

Class 4A Sectional 13 at Center Grove (six teams): No. 4 Center Grove, No. 10 Franklin Central, Franklin, Greenwood, No. 7 New Palestine, Whiteland.

The winner of Sectional 13 will visit the winner of Sectional 14 for a one-game regional, June 2.

Class 2A Sectional 41 at Cambridge City Lincoln (seven teams): Cambridge City Lincoln, Centerville, Eastern Hancock, Hagerstown, Knightstown, Northeastern, Union County.

The winner of Sectional 41 will visit the winner of Sectional 42 for a one-game regional, June 2.

Greenfield-Central plans girls basketball camp

The Greenfield-Central girls basketball camp for players in incoming kindergarten to Grade 8 will be June 1 to 4 at the high school fieldhouse.

Cost is $40, which includes a basketball, T-shirt and instructional emphasis on fundamentals.

Camp times are 8 to 9 a.m. (kindergarten to Grade 2); 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. (Grades 3 to 5); and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. (Grades 6 to 8).

Cardinals, Sycamores learn NCAA tourney fate

In the opening, regional round of the NCAA Division I Softball Championship on Friday, Ball State (33-23) will visit Notre Dame (40-13) and Indiana State (26-29) will visit Missouri (39-14).

The first round of the tourney will be played Friday through Sunday and is double elimination. The other matchup in the Ball State-Notre Dame four-team pod is Kentucky (29-24)-Northwestern (28-21). Kansas (38-13)-Louisville (30-17) is the other half of the Indiana State-Missouri grouping.

High school schedules health checks, physicals

Greenfield-Central High School will host wellness checks and athletics physicals for students entering Grades 7 to 12 on May 20 at Parkway Medical Center, 300 Boyd Ave., Greenfield.

Students should sign up for a 15-minute time slot in the high school athletics office prior to Thursday. Parents of junior high students can call the high school athletics office at 317-462-9195, ext. 2, to register.
