HANCOCK COUNTY — A New Palestine man is facing a felony burglary charge after being accused of breaking into a home and stealing jewelry and prescription medicine.
Austin W. Webb, 31, 5000 block of West U.S. 52, was arrested Saturday, Oct. 2, and charged with a Level 5 felony count of burglary. The charge carries a sentence of up to six years in prison.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Webb entered a home in the 4000 block of West Bittner Lane in New Palestine in mid-July while the homeowner was on vacation.
According to the affidavit, the homeowner suspected Webb and confronted him; Webb admitted to breaking in the back door and taking prescription pills and jewelry with an estimated value of $3,000.
In late August, the affidavit states, officials discovered he had some of the jewelry in his possession.
Webb made an initial appearance in Hancock County Superior Court 1 on Monday, Oct. 4. A not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and $5,000 cash bond was set. Webb is set to have a pretrial conference in mid-November. He was listed as an inmate in the county jail at the Daily Reporter’s deadline on Tuesday, Oct 5.
