Libraries to host programs for adults

GREENFIELD – Local libraries are hosting book clubs and events for adults in November.

Hear from artist Chris Sickels and see the unveiling of the newest addition of his art installation at the Hancock County Public Library Nov. 11. The event is at the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register at hcplibrary.org for the all-ages event.

Also at the Greenfield library, a Brown Bag book club is Nov. 12; an adult craft club is Nov. 12; a genealogy program is Nov. 13; and Writers Helping Writers is Nov. 21. Learn holiday brunch recipes in a program Nov. 20.

At the HCPL in New Palestine, yoga is available for adults Nov. 16, 23 and 30. The library is located at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Learn more or register at hcplibrary.org.

In Fortville, Art Expressions is 10:30 a.m. to noon each Wednesday at the Fortville Community Center, 400 w. Church St., Fortville. The six-week creative series focuses on a variety of art mediums and is designed for older adults. Register at vtpl.lib.in.us.

The Tuesday Morning Club continues for senior adults at the Vernon Township Public Library, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. An adult contemporary book club for anyone over 18 is Nov. 7. Learn more at vtpl.lib.in.us.

City leaf pickup now through Dec. 6

GREENFIELD – Leaf pickup within the city limits of Greenfield runs now through Dec. 6.

Residents on the east side of Ind. 9 should have leaves ready to be picked up Oct. 28-Nov. 1; Nov. 11 through Nov. 15; and Nov. 25-29.

Residents on the west side of Ind. 9 should have leaves ready for pickup Nov. 4-8; Nov. 18-22; and Dec. 2-6.

Leaves must be raked to the curbside, by 8 a.m. on the Monday of the scheduled week to ensure pickup. Bagged leaves will be picked up within two working days by calling 317-477-4380. Bagged leaves must also be placed at the curbside for pickup.

The schedule could change due to weather and the availability of machinery and crews.

White House decor topic of upcoming event

GREENFIELD – Learn about White House Christmas decorations in an upcoming event hosted by the Hancock County Herb Society.

Linda Vodney, a retired professional florist, will present “Decorating the White House for Christmas” based on her experience of being one of 100 volunteers to decorate the White House for the holidays in 2016.

Students hosting veterans clothing drive

GREENFIELD – A winter clothing drive to support local veterans is taking place at several locations in Hancock County.

The Greenfield-Central High School Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program is hosting the drive, collecting new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, gloves and socks. Drop off items to the high school, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield; the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield; or Curry’s Chapel Church, 3488 N. 375 E., Greenfield. Bingo event to assist MV Education Foundation

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is hosting a Bourbon, Bags & Bingo event to raise money for its mission to enhance the educational experience for MV students.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Nov.7, with Bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Barn at SilverStone Farm, 6508 W. 100N., Greenfield.

Breakfast with Santa, downtown events planned

GREENFIELD – Tickets are available now for the Ho Ho Ho Holiday Breakfast Dec. 7, hosted by Greenfield Main street.

The annual tradition takes place Dec. 7 at Bradley Hall Event Center in downtown Greenfield. Three time slots are available and tickets are $20 to have a buffet meal with Saint Nick and Mrs. Claus and enjoy holiday arts and crafts. Visit facebook.com/GreenfieldMainStreet for the link for tickets.

The organization also recently announced “Skating on Main”— ice skating on the downtown courthouse plaza from Dec. 6-Jan. 1.
