Rise Above It returns Nov. 12

FORTVILLE – Rise Above It returns Nov. 12 in an annual event that offers adults and youth a space to talk about emotional health, wellness, self-care and connect with resources.

The event is hosted by Hancock Health. This year’s event will be bigger with breakout sessions provided by the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation Parent University. It’s 5-8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville.

The free event includes vendors, snacks and several self-care stations including massage, weighted blanket demonstrations, exercise with music and more. Dinner and childcare are available to those who register in advance and select the options at hancockhealth.org/event/rise-above-it-2.

Family programs available at local libraries

GREENFIELD – Children and teens are invited to free programs at local libraries this November.

Pet Election Day is Nov. 4 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Drop in to vote for America’s favorite pet and get an “I voted” sticker. The Greenfield library is also hosting a recycling program Nov. 4; a chess club every Monday; a tween/teen Super Smash Brothers tournament Nov. 18; and story times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

In New Palestine, story times are on Wednesdays; Rhythm & Hues is Nov. 14; Little Crafters is Nov. 13; and teens can enjoy an impromptu program Thursdays. The Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL is located at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Register at hcplibrary.org.

In Fortville, Paint-a-Dino is Nov. 4; teen pumpkin bowling is Nov. 5; Dino Ranger Visit is Nov. 14; Homeschool Nature Club is Nov. 22; and Little Learners is Nov. 25. The Vernon Township Public Library is at 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. Learn more at vtpl.lib.in.us.

Bentley’s Buddies and Friends, reading therapy dogs, will be at the library in Fortville Nov. 16; and at the Greenfield and New Palestine libraries Nov. 17.

Bingo event to assist MV Education Foundation

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon Education Foundation is hosting a Bourbon, Bags & Bingo event to raise money for its mission to enhance the educational experience for MV students.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7, with Bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Barn at SilverStone Farm, 6508 W. 100N., Greenfield.

Scholarship event coming up

GREENFIELD – The Community Foundation of Hancock County will host a Scholarship and FAFSA Workshop in December.

The event is from 3-8 p.m. Dec. 3 at the foundation, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield.

More than $650,000 is available in local scholarships for graduating seniors, college students and adult learners. Bring a laptop or tablet and know your social security number before arriving.
