House District 53 grid: Nate Anderson, D

Briefly explain your top three priorities for your first year of office, if elected

If elected, my top three priorities are

1. Affordability: I’ll work to ease the financial burden on Hoosier families by fighting for wage increases, affordable healthcare, housing, and utilities.

2. Student safety: Strengthening school safety measures to protect our children.

3. Tax reform: Advocating for the removal of the state income tax to increase take-home pay for all Hoosiers.

How do you plan to address education in the state?

Public education is the backbone of our society, and we must fully fund our schools. I will fight to stop the drain of funds caused by voucher programs and redirect those resources back to public education. I plan to reform vouchers, ensuring they only benefit working-class families who genuinely need and deserve the assistance.

What changes, if any, would you make to Indiana’s property tax system?

I believe Indiana’s property tax system needs reform to ease the burden on homeowners, especially working-class families and seniors. I would advocate for targeted property tax relief, ensuring that everyday Hoosiers aren’t priced out of their homes.

How do you plan to address housing as it relates to homeownership?

Homeownership is key to building wealth and financial stability for Hoosiers. I plan to address housing by supporting policies that make homeownership more accessible, such as expanding first-time homebuyer programs, offering down payment assistance, and advocating for affordable housing development. By reducing barriers to entry, we can help more Hoosiers achieve the dream of owning a home.

How do you plan to address housing as it relates to renters?

For renters, I plan to advocate for stronger tenant protections, fair rent practices, and more affordable housing options. Expanding affordable housing development, capping excessive rent increases, and offering rental assistance programs are key priorities. I also believe in supporting legislation that ensures safe, quality living conditions for renters while addressing housing shortages across Indiana.
