Jack-o’-Lantern exhibit this week

GREENFIELD — Head to the grounds of the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home this week for the Festival of Jack-o’-Lanterns. Stop by any evening between 7-9 p.m. now through Oct. 31 to see the pumpkins glow, or visit during the day if you prefer.

The free community event features pumpkins carved by local community members; each pumpkin is numbered and those who stroll through the exhibit vote on their favorites. Prizes are given for adult and child carvings.

Creepy, kooky play coming to stage

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon High School presents “The Addams Family” this weekend in a stage play.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 2; and 2 p.m. Nov. 3.

Cost is $16 for adults and $12 for children or seniors 55 and older.

The auditorium is located at MVHS, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville.

Country Vintage Market Nov. 2

GREENFIELD – The Country Vintage Market returns to the Hancock County Fairgrounds this weekend.

The event is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 2 and features two buildings of food and craft vendors at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield.

The event is hosted by Hancock County Extension Homemakers and is a fundraiser for the group.

Local kids to portray “The True Story of Hey Diddle Diddle”

GREENFIELD – Tickets are available now for the KidsPlay Inc. production of “The True Story of Hey Diddle Diddle.”

The family-friendly production features 26 young actors in a full-length comedy. It portrays seven imaginative stories telling what might be the story behind the nursery rhyme, like why a cow could leap over the moon or why the dish ran away with the spoon.

Show dates are 7 p.m. Nov. 15, 7 p.m. Nov. 16 and 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St., Greenfield. Presale tickets online are $6 at crazylakeacting.com. Tickets are also available at Hometown Comics for $5; the store is located at 1040 N. State St., Greenfield. Tickets the day of the performance are $7.

Libraries to host programs for adults

GREENFIELD – Local libraries are hosting book clubs and events for adults in November.

Hear from artist Chris Sickels and see the unveiling of the newest addition of his art installation at the Hancock County Public Library Nov. 11. The event is at the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register at hcplibrary.org for the all-ages event.

Also at the Greenfield library, a Brown Bag book club is Nov. 12; an adult craft club is Nov. 12; a genealogy program is Nov. 13; and Writers Helping Writers is Nov. 21. Learn holiday brunch recipes in a program Nov. 20.

At the HCPL in New Palestine, yoga is available for adults Nov. 16, 23 and 30. The library is located at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Learn more or register at hcplibrary.org.

In Fortville, Art Expressions is 10:30 a.m. to noon each Wednesday at the Fortville Community Center, 400 w. Church St., Fortville. The six-week creative series focuses on a variety of art mediums and is designed for older adults. Register at vtpl.lib.in.us.

The Tuesday Morning Club continues for senior adults at the Vernon Township Public Library, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. An adult contemporary book club for anyone over 18 is Nov. 7. Learn more at vtpl.lib.in.us.
