TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The Salukis opened the 60th renewal of the long-time series by scoring all 17 of their points in the second quarter. Michael Lindauer capped a 14-play, 70-yard drive, throwing to Keontez Lewis for the final yard and a 7-0 lead with five minutes left in the half.

Jake Curry drove Southern Illinois (2-6, 0-4 Missouri Valley) 80 yards in just five plays, racing 24 yards to make it 14-0 with under a minute left and Ben Bogle picked off an Owens pass, allowing the Salukis to tack on a 37-yard Paul Geelen field goal as time expired in the first half.

Geoffrey Brown picked off a Curry pass early in the third quarter and returned it 21 yards for a score to get the Sycamores (3-5, 2-2) on the board. Owens engineered a 98-yard, 17-play drive to open the fourth, throwing to Lance Rees for the final two yards to get within three points, then took the team 56 yards on seven plays for his game-winning run.

Butler never trails to snap two-game loss streak

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Billy Dozier raced 63 yards for a touchdown on Butler’s first play from scrimmage and the Bulldogs never trailed, handing Davidson a 48-38 loss Saturday.

Devaon Holman returned an interception 20 yards for a score to make it 14-0 midway through the opening quarter, and after Mari Adams got Davidson on the board by capping an 11-play, 77-yard drive with a four-yard run, Reagan Andrew opened the second quarter with a five-yard run to make it 21-7.

The Wildcats got a 26-yard field goal from Adam Zoaugui with 4:29 left in the half and, two minutes later, Adams scored again with a five-yard run, but Butler’s Griffin Caldwell broke for a 13-yard touchdown in the closing seconds to make it 28-17 at the break.

Valparaiso beats Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Mansaray rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns and Valparaiso edged Marist 17-14 on Saturday.

The Beacons (3-5, 1-3 Pioneer) had a chance to ice the game when special teams pinned Marist deep in its own territory and the defense held. Then Colin Graves’ 23-yard punt return set them up with a short field but but failed on a fourth-and-1 on the Marist 12.

Then the Red Foxes (0-8, 0-5) had a chance to steal the game as they pushed out beyond midfield before pinning Valparaiso on its 7. The defense held and they got the back at midfield with just less than two minutes to go. They picked up a first down but needing one yard at the Valpo 28 they threw long twice to turn the ball over on downs with 50 seconds to go in their Homecoming game.

Mansary’s 58-yard burst around the right end gave the Crusaders a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game.

The Red Foxes came back and tied the game when Tristan Shannon’s 1-yard plunge capped a 75-yard drive.

Sonny Mannino hit Will Downes for an 8-yard score to cap a 73-yard drive late in the second quarter to put Marist on top 14-7. But Jeffery Vercher returned the ensuing kickoff to midfield, setting up Mansaray for a tying 4-yard run 18 seconds before halftime.

Valparaiso put together a 72-yard drive and got the winning 25-yard field goal from Ryan Hawk in the closing seconds of the third quarter as defenses dominated the second half.
