NEW PALESTINE
Age 95, peacefully passed away on October 19, 2024 at Woodland Terrace of New Palestine, where she received excellent care for five years. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jane led a life marked by dedication, love, and service to her family and community.
Jane was married to Russell K. Ross who preceded her in death in 1995, and together they had three children, Rusty Ross, Judy Sommers, and Norma Wilson. Later, she married Ray Schaefer, who passed away in 2009. Jane was blessed with seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jane worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company, where she was one of the first women to climb telephone poles to repair phone lines. In the late 1970s, she moved to Coral Springs, Florida, and retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company/AT&T after more than 40 years of employment. Even after retirement, Jane continued to work as a realtor with Watson Real Estate in Deland, Florida. Eventually, she returned to Indiana to be closer to family, residing in New Palestine.
Jane had a passion for sewing and crocheting, creating many dresses and outfits for her daughters and beautiful afghans for the family. She was a member of New Palestine United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed worshiping and fellowshipping for many years.
Above all, Jane loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her family finds comfort in the assurance that she is now in heaven with Him. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
