Happy haunts: Local communities, churches to host Halloween events

GREENFIELD – Get ready for a full week of Halloween fun in Hancock County, with festivals and community events coming up in all communities.

Here’s a look at where to go for free treats and fun this costume season:

Thursday, Oct. 24: Trunk or Treat hosted by Greenfield Parks and Recreation will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 Apple St., Greenfield. Local businesses and organizations that want to sign up as vendors can do so now by emailing [email protected].

Hank’s Spooktacular returns to Hancock Regional Hospital from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 24. The trunk or treat event is in the parking garage of HRH, 801 N. State St., Greenfield and will happen rain or shine.

Friday, Oct. 25: Tricks on Main brings families together for trick or treating with local downtown businesses in Greenfield. Set for 5-7 p.m. Oct. 25, the event along Main Street and the downtown Living Alley will conclude with a free movie of “Frankenweenie” at 7:30 p.m. the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts. Oct. 25-Oct. 31: Head to the grounds of the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home for the return of the Festival of Jack-o-Lanterns. Anyone can enter a carved pumpkin in the community display; it’s free to enter. Each pumpkin is numbered, and those who stroll through the exhibit vote on their favorite. Prizes are given for adult and child carvings. Stop by any evening between 7-9 p.m. to see the pumpkins glow, or visit during the day if you prefer.

Saturday, Oct. 26: Boos & Brews is an adults-only event is from 4-10 p.m. Oct. 26 in downtown Greenfield. Drink and dine in the district starting at 4, and at 8 p.m. enjoy a beer garden and music by the Flying Toasters. Artisan craft vendors, live t-shirt printing and a costume contest will be on site at the Living Alley for the crowd ages 21 and older. Visit greenfieldmainstreet.org/events for $15 tickets.

Treats on Main and the FARM Community Fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in downtown Fortville. Come for a fall festival for the entire family, including free treats and a community resource fair with vendor booths and food trucks. The event is hosted by the Fortville Area Resource Mission.

The disability community is invited to join in on some Halloween fun for all ages. Trunk or Treat and Monster Mash Dash is from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 26 at Developmental Disabilities Systems Inc., 5999 W. Memory Lane, Greenfield. The event is hosted by DDSi and Families United for Support and Encouragement (FUSE). It will include treats, bounce house, prizes for costumes, a chili dinner and more. Trunk ‘N Treat is from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Mt. Comfort Church’s Philadelphia Campus, 2265 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield.

Trunk or Treat is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Greenfield First Church of the Nazarene, 1980 S. State St., Greenfield.

Fall Fest is 5-7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Brown’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 994 N. 600E., Greenfield. The event will feature trunks with candy, bounce houses, hay rides and more; visit brownschapel.com for details.

Sunday, Oct. 27: McCordsville’s Trunk or Treat is 4-6 p.m. Oct. 27 at Outlook Christian Church, 6531 N. 600 W., McCordsville.

Woodland Terrace in New Palestine will host Trunk or Treat from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 27 at 4400 Terrace Drive, New Palestine.

Tuesday, Oct. 29: Trunk or Treat is from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Greenfield Church of Christ, 1380 S. State St., Greenfield.
