GREENFIELD, IN

Steve Alan Ellenberger passed away on Friday, October 11th. He was born on January 10, 1957 to James A. Ellenberger and Lois (Cope) Neuerman in Indianapolis, Indiana. While raised primarily in Hancock County, he spent many of his teen years in south Florida where he met the love of his life, and wife of 46 years, Jean (Barlow) Ellenberger.

Steve was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Class of 1975. He took some classes at IUPUI before finding his true calling as an electrician. Steve graduated from the IBEW apprenticeship program and was a proud Union journeyman wireman and foreman, Local 481. He retired in 2014 after 35 years of service. Steve was an avid reader, a master of trivia, a lover of classic cars, and of history, particularly the Civil War. He was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of touring Gettysburg this past spring. However, Steve would tell you that his happiest moments were always those when he was surrounded by his wife, kids, and grandkids.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jean, his daughters Amy (Michael) Lizzadro, Karen (Brian) Wyns, Mary (Amy) Ellenberger, his grandchildren Lauren and Emma Lizzadro, Harrison and Hope Wyns, and Ella Schrecengost. He is also survived by his mother Lois Neuerman and his siblings Scott (Joyce) Ellenberger and Debbie (Tony) Hice.

Steve is preceded in death by his father James A. Ellenberger and stepfather H. Samuel Neuerman.
