Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-2 victory over Perry Meridian (11-11) Monday.

It was Mt. Vernon’s ninth five-set match of the season. The Marauders have won four straight five-setters and are 7-2 in matches that have gone the distance.

Monday’s set scores were 25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 15-12.

The team’s three seniors, Avery Delello, Olivia Johnson and Ava Whitmore, were big contributors in the win.

Middle hitter Johnson had three blocks and three service aces. Defensive specialist Delell0 had 20 digs and setter Whitmore had 46 assists.

Sierra Holverson had a double-double with 18 kills and 24 digs. Jaycee Jones recorded 12 kills and Aubry Dowling had three aces.

Mt. Vernon (18-6, 4-2) finishes Hoosier Heritage Conference play Thursday with a home match against New Palestine (26-3, 3-2).

Noblesville defeats New Pal

In a tight four-setter, New Palestine lost 3-1, at home, to Noblesville (18-8) Monday.

The Dragons lost by set scores of 26-28, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17.

Hayden Ramsey had team-highs with 14 kills and six blocks.

Natalie Sevier had 11 kills. Caylee Brown and Josie Corbett had eight kills each. Corbett also had seven digs.

Elena Cook recorded six kills and four blocks. Azure Flagle had 15 digs and setter Sam Gooding had 45 assists and eight digs.

New Palestine (26-3, 3-2) hosts Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville (5-19, 0-6) Tuesday.

Royals beat Tigers

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team defeated visiting Triton Central (15-9) 3-0 Monday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.

Eastern Hancock (21-6) returns to action with the regular-season finale Tuesday against visiting rival Knightstown (7-14).
