Prep roundup: Dragons win on Senior Night

Senior Josie Corbett led the way with 11 kills and seven service aces in a Senior Night victory for the New Palestine volleyball team Tuesday.

In the final home match for Corbett and fellow seniors Makaeli Johnson and Kyndra Monteith, the Dragons defeated Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Shelbyville 3-0 by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-20.

Natalie Sevier had 13 kills and setter Samantha Gooding had 34 assists.

The Dragons are 27-3 overall and 4-2 in the HHC. Shelbyville dropped to 5-20 and 0-7.

New Palestine travels to Mt. Vernon (18-6, 4-2) Thursday.

Cougars defeat sectional opponent

Greenfield-Central’s volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Anderson at Greenfield-Central High School Tuesday.

The Cougars won by set scores of 25-2, 25-3, 25-8.

Greenfield-Central is 19-9 on the season. Anderson, the Cougars first-round opponent in next week’s Pendleton Heights Sectional, is 0-14.

The Cougars host Triton Central (15-9) Thursday.

Royals win finale over rival Panthers

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3-0 victory over visiting rival Knightstown (8-17) Tuesday.

The Royals finished the regular season 22-6. They beat the Panthers by set scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-13.

Eastern Hancock’s next match is Thursday, Oct. 17 in the quarterfinals of the Scecina Sectional. The Royals will take on Irvington Prep Academy (12-11).
