Jack-o-lantern display to return

GREENFIELD – The annual Jack-o-Lantern Festival returns to the gardens of the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home Oct. 26-31.

Take a nightly walk through the gardens between 7-9 p.m. and see a display of lit pumpkins, carved by local residents.

Enter a pumpkin in the carving contest Oct. 26 by dropping it off at the gardens, 250 W. Main St. Between 2-5 p.m. A workshop on carving will also be at the site during the same time and costs $5. Learn more at hancockcountyarts.org.

Libraries to host book clubs, events

GREENFIELD – Book clubs and a concert are coming up for adults at local libraries in Hancock County.

The Craig Brenner Trio performs Oct. 10 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. The blues, boogie-woogie and jazz pianist Brenner is a composer, teacher and recipient of multiple arts grants.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, the Tuesday Morning Club continues for seniors each week. An adult Horror Book Club will be Oct. 16 at Scarlet Lane Brewing Company, 7724 Depot St., McCordsville. Harvest Fest in New Pal Oct. 19

NEW PALESTINE — New Pal Harvest Fest returns noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 in downtown New Palestine. The annual event features trunk or treat, chili tasting, a scarecrow stroll and Highland cows for photos and petting. Come dressed in a Halloween costume for family fun at 11 E. Main St., New Palestine.

Shirley to host fall festival

SHIRLEY — Pumpkins and Peddlers in Shirley celebrates the fall season in the community on the Hancock/Henry line.

The event is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 19 at Shirley Park and features food, entertainment, vendors, pumpkin decorating, a chili cook-off and more. Visit facebook.com/shirleyindiana for updates.
