FORTVILLE — A local church has broken ground on a future children’s ministry building.

The building that will house the Mercy Kids ministry at Mercy Road Church Northeast, 611 Vitality Drive, will later also house a childcare.

“We’ve got enough funds that have come in already that we can start construction,” said Ken Primeau, lead pastor.

In the first quarter of the year, the church conducted a capital campaign with a $2.5 million goal. Church leaders said then they would break ground when the first $1.25 million had come in. The project is expected to cost $4 million total.

Primeau said the goal is for construction to be complete within a year of the groundbreaking. That would allow Mercy Kids to move into the 15,500-square-foot building in August or September 2025 for its Sunday morning programming.

Then, in early 2026, the plan is to partner with Lionheart Children’s Academy to operate a preschool and childcare in the space through the week, with some after-school care slots available.

The church celebrated the groundbreaking Sept. 15, at the close of a service celebrating the congregation’s fourth anniversary.
