Prep roundup: Marauders win another 5-setter

Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team won a five-set match for the sixth time this season with a 3-2 victory at Fishers (16-12) Tuesday.

The Marauders won by set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-10. They are 6-2 in five-set matches this season.

Sierra Holverson had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs.

Five players had double figures in kills. Alivia Morgan and Olivia Johnson had 14 each. Jaycee Jones recorded 12 and Jasmine Henderson had 11.

Johnson also had five blocks. Setter Ava Whitmore had 54 assists. Avery Delello had 23 digs. Makenna Thompson had three service aces.

Mt. Vernon (16-6, 3-2) returns to Hoosier Heritage Conference play at Shelbyville (5-17, 0-5) Thursday.

Royals lose at Daleville

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team finished Mid-Eastern Conference play Tuesday with a 3-0 loss at Daleville.

Set scores were very close. The Royals lost 25-23, 25-21, 27-25.

Eastern dropped to 19-6 overall and finish MEC play 7-2. Daleville improved to 20-3 and 7-1.

The Royals host Lapel (21-9) Thursday.

Boys soccer

Marauders get 10th win

Mt. Vernon’s boys soccer team went on the road and recorded a 6-0 shutout at Greenwood Christian Academy (8-4-2) Tuesday.

The Marauders scored three goals in each half.

Drew Lynch and Charlie Cole both had two goals and one assist. Colby Smith had one goal and one assist. Ryan Kroemer had a goal and Luka Alka, Rylan Vinard and Jaylyn Meggenhofen each had an assist.

Goalkeepers Will Keppler and Joe Buchanan had four saves each.

Mt. Vernon (10-3-1) hosts Lawrence Central (8-5-1) Thursday.

Cougars defeat Scecina

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team scored two first-half goals and earned a 2-0 victory over visiting Scecina (5-9) Tuesday.

Greenfield-Central (2-9, 1-5) travels to New Castle (1-14, 0-6) Thursday.

New Pal ties Franklin

New Palestine and Franklin Community (2-12-2) soccer teams battled to a 5-5 tie on Senior Night at New Palestine High School Tuesday.

Cole Christopher had four goals and Paxton Holmes had a goal and an assist. Noah Diaz de Leon added an assist.

New Palestine (7-7-1, 5-1) travels to Pendleton Heights (10-3, 5-1) Thursday for a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.
