GREENFIELD

Jean E. Dungan, age 75 of Greenfield, passed away peacefully at her residence on September 24, 2024. Her family knew her as Jean Ellen and she was born on January 30, 1949, in Huntington, IN, to the late Frank and Vernice (Frech) Kline. Jean graduated from Huntington Co. Community School in 1967 and after a brief stint at Purdue University and a year in the workforce, she married Harold E. Dungan on September 28, 1969, and they moved to Angola, IN. As a couple they moved from there to Champaign-Urbana, IL, Carbondale, IL and then to Richmond, IN and finally Greenfield, IN.

Jean dedicated herself to being a wife, mother and homemaker and enjoyed several years as a preschool aide at a local church. Jean was an active member of a local church in each location she and Harold lived in. While living in Greenfield she was a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ for many years and while growing up in Huntington County, she attended Union Church with her parents and many family members. Jean was a talented piano player, and you could find her playing Sunday mornings at church, although she started and became accomplished on the accordion at an early age. She shared her love for Jesus when she directed many Vacation Bible Schools (VBS), helped lead a lady’s small group and found joy in helping prepare food for funeral dinners. Jean and Harold served their community for 15 years delivering Meals on Wheels, it was an extension of their love for people in general. Jean was a family-oriented woman who took joy in her garden and flowers sharing the abundance with many and loved to cook (even made the paper once for her homemade salsa). All who knew Jean knew she loved her family, her friends and gathering together for a meal, some card games and many laughs. She enjoyed traveling to see the Lord’s nature and shared those adventures with family. Jean treasured each visit her Grandson made to see her and their FaceTime moments while he was away in college. Once in a while you would find her with pole in hand, fishing for some bluegill, best tasting fish she would say. Jean was a woman of many talents, a solid rock, honest and loyal friend which many could depend on.

Survivors include her devoted Husband, Harold, her son, Greg (Susan) Dungan; daughter, Julia (Todd) Ward; grandson, Isaac Dungan; her brother Duane (Rachel) Kline and sister Janice Grogg along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her siblings, Jerry (Nancy) Kline, Marilyn (Max) Harrell and brother-in-law Gene Grogg.
