New Palestine’s 21-match winning streak to start the high school volleyball season came to an end Thursday.

The Dragons lost 3-0 at New Castle in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match.

New Palestine is 21-1 and 3-1 in the HHC. New Castle improved to 14-7 and 5-1 in the conference.

Set scores for the match were 25-22, 25-17, 25-20.

For the Dragons, Hayden Ramsey had 11 kills and two blocks. Natalie Sevier and Caylee Brown each had seven kills.

Setter Samantha Gooding had 24 assists. Azure Flagle had 10 digs.

New Palestine plays host to Franklin Central (9-9) Monday.

Marauders beat Wildcats

Mt. Vernon’s girls volleyball team defeated Lawrence North (11-11) 3-1 at home Thursday.

The Marauders won by set scores of 25-19, 25-13, 17-25, 25-16.

Alivia Morgan had 14 kills. Sierra Holverson totaled 13 kills and 10 digs. Jaycee Jones recorded 10 kills and two blocks.

Avery Delello had 19 digs and three service aces. Olivia Johnson was part of two blocks.

Setter Ava Whitmore totaled 37 assists and 14 digs.

Mt. Vernon (15-6) travels to Fishers (16-11) Tuesday.

Boys soccer

Cougars get first victory

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team picked up its first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over visiting Shelbyville Thursday.

The Cougars are 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Shelbyville dropped to 7-7 and 3-3.

Greenfield-Central hosts Scecina (5-7) Tuesday.

Boys tennis

Dragons win finale

New Palestine’s boys tennis team earned a 5-0 sweep of Richmond on the Dragons’ Senior Day.

Each match in the Dragons’ all-senior lineup was won in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Arjomand Khokhar won 6-3, 6-0. Brady Torzewski won the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Joel Dorval picked up the victory at No. 3 6-0, 6-0.

Both doubles teams won 6-0, 6-0. Moses Haynes and Max Havel won at No. 1 doubles. Andrew Hahn and Jesse Isaacs won the No. 2 doubles match.

The Dragons take a 15-3 record into the Mt. Vernon Sectional semifinals Wednesday. The draw for sectional opponents is Monday.
