DePauw junior outside linebacker Joey Roland, a Greenfield-Central grad, has been a key contributor to the Tigers’ 3-0 start and No. 18 national ranking by the American Football Coaches Association.

In the North Coast Athletic Conference opener in Greencastle last Saturday, Roland had three solo tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack. He also had an interception and three quarterback hurries in a 51-14 win over Wooster.

In the previous week’s game at Berry, Roland had two solos and a sack in a 33-0 victory.

In the season and home opener, a 57-14 blowout of Rose-Hulman, Roland had two assisted tackles and an interception with a 35-yard return.

DePauw hosts Oberlin at Blackstock Stadium Saturday in another NCAC game.

Volleyball

No. 4 Dragons are 21-0

Ranked No. 4 in the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association Class 3A Z-Ratings, New Palestine improved to 21-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory at Mooresville Monday.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.

Natalie Sevier recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Hayden Ramsey had 11 kills and Josie Corbett added 10.

Samantha Gooding had 32 assists and Azure Flagle had 21 digs.

New Palestine (21-0, 3-0) travels to New Castle (12-7, 3-1) Thursday.

Marauders win five-setter

Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team, in its seventh five-set match of the season, defeated visiting Westfield Monday 3-2 by set scores of 16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14.

The Marauders are 13-6 overall and 5-2 in five-set matches. Westfield dropped to 14-6.

Sierra Holverson had 15 kills and 19 digs. Alivia Morgan had 10 kills and five blocks.

Jaycee Jones added four blocks and Olivia Johnson recorded three, including two solos.

Avery Delell0 and Ava Whitmore had 13 digs each. Makenna Thompson had 12 digs. Whitmore also had 40 assists.

The Marauders welcome Triton Central (13-6) today.

Royals win 17th match

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory over visiting Cowan (4-11, 3-2) Monday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-18.

Eastern Hancock hosts Cambridge City Lincoln (3-17) today.

Cougars beat Bears

Greenfield-Central’s volleyball team defeated host Lawrence Central 3-0 Monday.

The Cougars won by set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-11. The Bears dropped to 3-13.

Greenfield-Central (12-6, 2-3) hosts Yorktown (17-2, 5-0) today.

Cougars win big on Senior Night

Greenfield-Central’s girls soccer team, on Senior Night, picked up a 6-0 victory over New Castle (2-10, 0-7) Monday.

Paige McCarley and senior Tessa Joyner had two goals each. Seniors Carly Means and Sophia Thompson added goals.

Senior Chaney Brown, Ainsley Robinson and McCarley each had an assist.

Greenfield-Central (3-8, 2-4) travels to Shelbyville (5-7-1, 1-4) today.

Dragons win at Franklin

Shaylee Frank had a pair of goals and Rylee Hurst and Gabbie Brown added the others in New Palestine’s girls soccer team’s 4-1 victory at Franklin (4-6-1) Monday.

Abby Lambdin and Brooke Tanksley had assists.

New Palestine (9-4, 5-1) hosts Pendleton Heights (5-6-1, 5-0) today.
