Golf benefit to help families facing cancer

GREENFIELD – The Andy Gilliland and Friends Annual Golf Benefit that assists local families with the cost of cancer treatments returns this month.

The fundraiser is at 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at Arrowhead Golf Course, 2974 Clubhouse Drive, Greenfield. This year’s recipient is Jenni Palmer, a 1984 Greenfield-Central High School graduate.

The event is named after Andy Gilliland, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 1989 and received a bone marrow transplant from his sister. He went into remission and was later cured. However, his father Jack was later diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and his mother Carole, with an aggressive form of leukemia and died of the illness. Due to Andy Gilliland’s numerous experiences with cancer, he was inspired to continue his fundraiser annually to help others.
