Homecoming includes gospel trio

GREENFIELD — Homecoming Sunday is Sept. 29 at Curry’s Chapel Church, 3488 N. CR 375E.

Worship is at 10 a.m. and will feature special music throughout the service by Victorious Trio.

Guest speaker is the Rev. Debbie Beason, who went out from Curry’s to pastor other churches.

There will be a pitch-in meal after the service with meats provided. Everyone is welcome.

Community Christian celebrates 60th

NEW PALESTINE — Community Christian Church is celebrating 60 years of ministry this weekend at the church, 3123 S. CR 500W, New Palestine.

Activities, reminiscing, dinner and a dessert auction will highlight the opening day of the celebration.

“I’m sure there will be wonderful desserts,” said Darlene Bradley, an organizer of the event. “Things will go high, some of them, because we all know who the good bakers are.”

The celebration continues that Sunday with worship and lunch.

“Everyone is invited,” Darlene Bradley said, “whether they’re past members or visitors or just want to come and enjoy a good time.”

Saturday (Sept. 21)

3 p.m.: meet and greet, activities for children and adults

5 p.m.: dinner (pulled pork, cheesy potatoes, baked beans, green beans)

6 p.m.: dessert auction

7 p.m.: music hour

Church to show ‘Amazing Grace’

GREENFIELD — The monthly free movie night series continues with “Amazing Grace.” The showing is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at Curry’s Chapel Church, 3488 N. CR 375E.

The film is about the abolitionist campaign against the slave trade in the British Empire, led by William Wilberforce, who was responsible for steering anti-slave trade legislation through the British parliament. The title refers to the 1772 hymn “Amazing Grace.” The film also recounts the experiences of hymn writer John Newton, a former captain of slave ships, and his subsequent Christian conversion. The movie is based on true events.

Refreshments will be provided.

Craft, vendor fair is today

NEW PALESTINE — The United Women in Faith group will sponsor a Craft and Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 21) at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 S. CR 500W, New Palestine. It features art, jewelry, candles, greeting cards, women’s clothing, holiday items and more.

Food is also for sale, including a breakfast of biscuits and gravy with coffee. Lunch features a baked potato bar, hot dogs, coney dogs, popcorn, desserts and soft drinks.

Bible read-aloud welcomes readers

CUMBERLAND — The monthly community Bible read-aloud series continues at Heather Hills Baptist Church with the book of Exodus (chapters 29-40). The book deals with Moses and the Israelites’ exit from Egypt. These chapters deal with priestly practices and the tabernacle.

Readings will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday and noon Sept. 30. Past Bible read-alouds have typically lasted about an hour.

Church leaders say anyone is welcome to come join in the reading, or simply listen. The church is located at 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis.

Group discusses current events

GREENFIELD — A current events small group gathers at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at Curry’s Chapel Church, 3488 N. CR 375E.

The group discusses events of the times and how they affect us. This is not a Bible study, but an open discussion about the events of the day. The group meets on the fourth Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Outdoor worship night coming

GREENFIELD — Various churches are promoting Community Worship Night at the Depot, set for 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at Depot Street Park, 251 Depot St. Those who go are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The service includes music, prayer and Communion. Some song sheets will be available with lyrics, and also possibly a QR code that would bring them up on a person’s device.

People who can walk an extra block or two are encouraged to park farther out, so those with mobility issues can find parking close to the park.

Personal care items sought

GREENFIELD — In support of Love INC and the local community, St. James Lutheran Church is a collection and distribution spot for household and personal care items to those in need. It is always collecting paper products, hygiene products, laundry soap, cleaning supplies and personal care supplies for the H2O Ministry. The church is located at 1741 S. State St.

Mt. Lebanon to serve pulled pork

GREENFIELD — Mt. Lebanon Community Church will serve a pulled pork dinner from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the church, 3447 S. State Road 9.

The menu will include pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, green beans, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw, dessert and beverage.

A free-will offering will be accepted for missions and special projects.

German Dinner coming to Zion

NEW PALESTINE — Zion Lutheran Church’s 48th annual German dinner is set for 4-7 p.m. Oct. 26 at the church, 6513 W. CR 300S.

The traditional German dinner includes sauerbraten, pork and kraut, brats, ham, potato pancakes, green beans, potato salad, applesauce and desserts.
