MUNCIE — Mt. Vernon traveled to Delta High School and picked up a much-needed win Friday night.

Behind a big third quarter, the Marauders (1-4, 1-2) picked up their first win of the season, defeating Delta (3-2, 1-2) 49-20.

Up 21-14 at halftime, Mt. Vernon outscored the Eagles 21-0 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

On the opening play of the second half, quarterback Mason Meyer connected with DJ Johnson on an 80-yard touchdown strike.

Later in the quarter, Meyer found the end zone with his legs on a 62-yard touchdown run to make it 35-14 and followed that up with a 12-yard score to push the lead to 42-14.

Running back Joliba Brogan scored his second touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 35 and cap off the big offensive night for the Marauders.

The two second-half rushing scores were the exclamation point on a huge night for Meyer.

He started the night rushing for a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. The first came from eight yards out, and the second came from 18 yards out to put the Marauders ahead early 14-0.

The Eagles trimmed the lead to 14-7 on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Bronson Edwards to Amir Wright-Hill.

Brogan answered with a 5-yard score, but a late second-quarter Delta score kept things close entering the break.

Meyer accounted for five total touchdowns, Brogan accounted for two and DJ Johnson caught the lone passing score.

The Marauders travel to Pendleton Heights to take on the Arabians next Friday at 7 p.m.
