The Vernon Township Board held a public hearing on its 2025 budget at its monthly meeting on August 19.

A major procedural change for next year’s budget is the merging of the township budget and the Vernon Township Fire Department budget, which was agreed upon when the VTFD was formed.

After merging, the overall increase to the budget is 10% from 2024. The largest hike is in cemetery care, which jumps from $5,000 to $18,000, an increase of 260%.

The township’s direct assistance budget also saw an increase of 8%. Most areas of the budget actually saw a decrease, but a 56% increase to the town’s housing relief budget along with an extra $1,000 in transportation left this year’s grand total at $80,250 compared to last year’s $73,400.

The budget passed 3-0.
