Prep roundup: Dragons, Marauders golfers get road wins

Lauren Deering and Katie Kelley each shot 38s to lead New Palestine’s girls golf team to a 164-172 victory over Pendleton Heights Monday at Fall Creek Golf Course.

Lily Kirchner shot a 42 and Tessa Mohr finished with a 46.

The Dragons have Senior Day today at The Links in a nine-hole match against Mt. Vernon.

Marauders win two

Mt Vernon’s girls golf team defeated Greenfield-Central and Warren Central Monday in a match at Maple Creek Golf and Country Club.

Mt. Vernon shot a 181. Greenfield-Central finished with a 222 and Warren Central carded a 235.

Mt. Vernon’s Izzy VanHeel was medalist with a 41. Marissa Miner finished with a 44. Kylie Hyde carded a 46 and Gigi Avers scored a 50.

The Marauders travel to The Links today to take on New Palestine.

Boys tennis

Dragons beat Arabians

New Palestine’s boys tennis team followed up Saturday’s Hancock County Meet title with a home Hoosier Heritage Conference win over Pendleton Heights Monday.

The Dragons beat the Arabians 5-0 to improve to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the HHC.

All five wins were in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Arjomand Khokhar won 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2, Joey McPike was victorious 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3, Brady Torzewski was a 6-0, 6-1 winner.

In doubles matches, the No. 1 team of Moses Haynes and Max Havel won 6-2, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Andrew Hahn and Carson Rush won 6-3, 6-3.

The Dragons host conference opponent New Castle today.

Cougars win HHC match

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team won a 4-1 Hoosier Heritage Conference match at home Monday over Shelbyville.

The Cougars swept singles matches in straight sets.

Nathan Roberts, at No. 1 singles, won 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2, Alex Michalek won 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles player Luke Sitzman won 6-1, 6-3.

The No. 2 doubles team of Ethan Ortwein and Jacob Welch won 6-3, 6-2. The No. 1 team of Nolan Frye and Kasen Jarnecke lost 6-4, 6-2.

The Cougars host Pendleton Heights today.

Girls soccer

Dragons lose on late goal to No. 11 Trojans

New Palestine’s girls soccer team was deadlocked 0-0 most of the match against No. 11 Center Grove, but the host Trojans scored the game’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the final minutes.

With the 1-0 loss, New Palestine dropped to 7-3 on the season. Center Grove is 8-2.

New Palestine hosts Greenfield-Central today.

Girls volleyball

Royals win conference match

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team improved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory at Randolph Southern (4-7, 0-2) Monday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-5, 25-9, 25-4.

Eastern Hancock played at Southwestern Tuesday and will host Monroe Central in another MEC match on Thursday.
