The Hancock County Commissioners implemented a burn ban via an executive order at an emergency session Tuesday afternoon, effective immediately.

The ban prohibits campfires and recreational fires, open burning of of burn barrels at residential structures, burning of debris and and open burning using conventional fuels. Grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane are allowed so long as they have a lid and the lid is closed.

The commissioners intended to implement the ban through a resolution at their regular Tuesday morning meeting, but after realizing that there were procedural issues with how the ban was structured, they reconvened for the emergency session that same afternoon.

The Reporter will have further coverage of the burn ban and dry conditions in the county later this week.
