Chalkfest set for Saturday

GREENFIELD — “Life is a Jungle” is the theme of the annual Chalkfest coming to downtown Greenfield.

Set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 21 in the downtown Living Alley on North Street, the event encourages chalking for a chance to win prizes.

Walk-up registration is accepted; chalk will be provided at the alley or bring your own. Cost is $5-$15. The event is hosted by Hancock County Arts. Learn more or register in advance at hancockcountyarts.org.

Fortville to host downtown festival

FORTVILLE – A free concert and street festival are coming to downtown Fortville next Wednesday, Sept 18.

Visit the ’Ville is an event hosted by BeLocal, a magazine that is designed to help connect residents to local businesses. Kids music with Annie’s Jam begins at 5:30 p.m., with Tommy Whiskers at 7 p.m. The event will close Main Street between Broadway and Staat streets from 4-9 p.m. There will be balloon twisting, princesses, face painting, local public safety officials and vehicles and more.

Herbal teas, recipes to be featured at event

GREENFIELD – Herbal teas will be the program topic at the Hancock County Herb Society meeting in October.

Joyce Miler of Rushville’s Huckleberry Hutch will discuss how to gather and prepare ingredients for making herbal teas then make and share some of her favorite recipes.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Mobile blood drives coming to county

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several mobile blood drives are coming up across Hancock County during the final two weeks of September.

In Greenfield, Hancock Wellness Center and Greenfield Banking Company will both host drives this Thursday, Sept. 19. Bradley United Methodist Church will host a drive Sept. 23; Greenfield Central junior High School, Sept. 30.

On the west side of the county, McCordsville United Methodist Church will host a blood drive Sept. 26. Gateway Community Church of Fortville will host a drive this coming Sunday, Sept. 22.

Hancock Wellness Center in New Palestine will host a blood drive Sept. 24.

Electronics recycling event Wednesday

GREENFIELD – Computers and electronics can be recycled in a drive-through event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Kemper Technology Consulting will host an e-waste recycling event at 320 E. Main St., Greenfield.

TVs and monitors are 20 per item; copy machines are $30 per item. Other items can be recycled for free, including cables, speakers, VCRs, microwaves, electrical equipment and more. Items not accepted include paint, tires, clothing and chemicals.

Women Helping Women hosting fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Hancock Health Foundation will raise money in a basketball-themed event this fall.

Hoops for Women’s Health is 6-10 p.m. Oct. 25 at Embassy Suites, 13700 Conference Center Drive S., Noblesville.

Speaker is Andrea Morehead Allen, an Emmy-winning former news anchor and journalist.

Tickets are $125 and basketball fan attire is encouraged. The event is through Women Helping Women, and proceeds benefit the women’s clinic at Hancock Health, ensuring healthcare access for hundreds of local women in need.
