Prep roundup: Fifth-ranked Dragons run record to 14-0

New Palestine’s girls volleyball team won for the 14th straight time with a 3-0 sweep at Triton Central Thursday.

The 14-0 Dragons, ranked No. 5 in the Class 3A Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association’s Z-Ratings poll, were victorious by set scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17.

Hayden Ramsey had 14 kills, seven digs and four service aces. Natalie Sevier had a team-high 16 kills to go with six digs and Caylee Brown added nine kills.

Setter Samantha Gooding had 34 assists and nine digs. Libero Azure Flagle had four service aces. Makaeli Johnson and Kyndra Monteith each had eight digs.

The Dragons compete today at the Greenwood Invitational.

Cougars fall to Trojans

Greenfield-Central’s girls volleyball team dropped to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 3-1 loss to visiting New Castle Thursday.

The Cougars lost by set scores of 25-23, 16-25, 25-13, 25-20.

New Castle improved to 7-3 and 2-0 in the HHC.

Greenfield-Central is back in action Tuesday at home against Mt. Vernon (10-4, 2-1).

Cougars sweep Panthers

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team defeated Knightstown 5-0 Thursday.

Of four matches played, Greenfield-Central won all by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

No. 1 Nathan Roberts and No. 2 Alex Michalek won singles matches. At No. 3 singles, Luke Sitzman won by forfeit.

Doubles winners were Nolan Frye and Kasen Jarnecke at No. 1 and Ethan Ortwein and Jacob Welch at No. 2.

Greenfield-Central improved to 8-3 with the win.

The Cougars are competing today at New Palestine High School in the Hancock County Tournament.

Dragons lose close match at Chatard

New Palestine’s 29th-ranked boys tennis team lost 3-2 to No. 27 Bishop Chatard on the road Thursday.

The Dragons won both doubles matches.

At No. 1, Moses Haynes and Max Havel won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Andrew Hahn and Jesse Isaacs won 6-2, 6-2.

In singles play, No. 1 Arjomand Khokhar lost 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 Joey McPike was defeated 6-1, 6-2 and No. 3 Carson Rush lost 6-0, 6-1.

New Palestine (10-2) hosts the Hancock County tournament today beginning at 9 a.m.

Marauders win road HHC match

Mt. Vernon’s boys tennis team defeated host Shelbyville 4-1 Thursday.

The Marauders improved to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Mt. Vernon will compete in today’s Hancock County Tournament at New Palestine High School.

Royals fall to Mohawks

On Thursday at Waldron, Eastern Hancock’s boys tennis team lost a 3-2 contest to the Mohawks.

The Royals will compete today at the Hancock County Tournament at New Palestine High School.

Girls golf

Marauders win on Senior Night

Mt. Vernon’s girls golf team defeated Lapel and Yorktown on its Senior Night at Arrowhead Golf Course Thursday.

The Marauders shot a 169, Lapel finished with a 178 and Yorktown had a 187.

Mt. Vernon senior Izzy VanHeel was medalist with a 36.

The Marauders compete today in the Hoosier Heritage Conference tournament at Albany Golf Club.

Dragons defeat visiting Golden Bears

New Palestine’s girls golf team, on its home course The Links, defeated Shelbyville 198-221 Thursday.

New Pal’s Matti Tiede-White was medalist with a 43. Janie Hamilton shot a 48. Tessa Mohr and Libby Hunter carded a 51 and a 56, respectively.

The defending champion Dragons play in the Hoosier Heritage Conference tournament today at Albany Golf Club.

Boys soccer

New Pal beats Shelbyville

New Palestine’s boys soccer team improved to 3-1 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play, and 5-4 overall, with a 5-1 victory at Shelbyville (4-5, 1-1) Thursday.

Five different players scored goals for the Dragons: Will Bardonner, Noah Diaz de Leon, Paxton Holmes, Eli Martin and Hector Medrano.

Holmes and Diaz de Leon had two assists each. Cole Christopher also had an assist.

New Palestine plays at Lawrence North (6-2) today.
