Balloons are almost always released to remember the lives of people who have lost their lives to addiction during the Recovery Walk. The walk helps identify and help people who are fighting addiction as well as families who are affected by it. The 10th annual walk will be Sept. 21.

Recovery Walk returns Sept. 21

GREENFIELD – The 10th annual Recovery Walk benefiting The Landing Place is coming up.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at Depot Street Park, 251 Depot St., Greenfield. The walk is to honor those who have lost the battle to addiction; in memory this year is Bre Rogers. The walk is also for those who are still facing addiction, those who live in recovery and families. The event will feature food trucks, resource tables, a bounce house, and dunk tank with Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton. Registration is $35. VFW ride to benefit PAWS

GREENFIELD – A motorcycle ride is coming up benefiting a local animal rescue group.

The VFW Post 2693 is hosting a benefit ride for Partners in Animal Welfare Society of Hancock County Sept. 21. Registration opens at 9 a.m. with kickstands up at 11:30 a.m. Live music will be performed by the Bobby Wiggins Duo from 4-7 p.m. The event is in honor of Lin Parsons and includes a spaghetti and meatball dinner for $5, raffles and prizes. The post is located at 529 N. Apple St., Greenfield.

Fire department to host community event

NEW PALESTINE – A local fire department is hosting a free community event this month.

The Sugar Creek Township Fire Prevention and Life Safety Open House is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at 3545 S. 600W., New Palestine. The event will feature free bike helmets, a junior firefighter combat challenge, face painting, a junior paramedic challenge, antique fire truck rides, bounce house and more.

Hoosier Gym to host community event

KNIGHTSTOWN – A dedication ceremony for a new commemorative bench at The Hoosier Gym Community Center in Knightstown is coming up.

The event is at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 and is open to the public. Adjacent to the bench is a bronze marker that attributes the bench to the many trailblazers that have made the gym what it is today. A plaque will be displayed in the gym lobby with the names of the trailblazers, with room to add more in the future.

McCordsville meetings on future coming up

MCCORDSVILLE – Workshops about the future of McCordsville are coming up.

The public events encourage the community to share their thoughts and opinions about housing, trails, parks and more to update the town’s comprehensive plan.

‘Absolute Beginners’ computer workshop coming up

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Public Library will be hosting an Absolute Beginners Computer Workshop 16 10 a.m. Sept. 16 at the main library in Greenfield. Anyone interested in becoming more comfortable with computer basics is welcome to register.

Topics include using a mouse and keyboard, browsing the internet, and accessing email. No experience necessary. Please bring all pertinent email and password information. The class will consist of 30 minutes of instruction, followed by an hour of independent study and computer assistance with two librarians.
