Chalkfest set for Sept. 21

GREENFIELD — “Life is a Jungle” is the theme of the annual Chalkfest coming to downtown Greenfield.

Set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 in the downtown Living Alley on North Street, the event encourages chalking for a chance to win prizes.

Walk-up registration is accepted; chalk will be provided at the alley or bring your own. Cost is $5-$15. The event is hosted by Hancock County Arts. Learn more or register in advance at hancockcountyarts.org.

Homecoming parade, game set for G-CHS

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central High School will host homecoming activities next week, culminating with the homecoming parade and game this Friday, Sept. 13.

The parade starts at 4:30 p.m. and the homecoming football game at 7 p.m. at the Hancock Health Stadium.

The parade route starts at the Greenfield Intermediate School parking lot, travels west on Park Avenue, south on Noble Street, west on North Street, north on Broadway Street back up to Park Avenue. The parade theme is “Now Playing” and includes the G-CHS marching band, football team, cheerleaders, and various clubs and organizations.

Local car show to benefit children’s hospital

MAXWELL – A local company is hosting a family-friendly car show this Saturday, Sept. 14, with proceeds benefiting Riley Hospital for Children,

The Hoosier Hot Wheels Car Show is 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Peak Garage Equipment, 212 N. Main St., Maxwell. All children will receive a Hot Wheel toy. Prizes will be awarded to participants in the car show, and dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars. For more, visit peak-ge.com.

Harvest event coming to HCPL

GREENFIELD — “Happy Harvesting” is the theme of an upcoming Green Thumb Project event at the Hancock County Public Library.

Learn about food preservation and the importance of sustainable gardening in a free educational event sponsored by the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation district and the Hancock County Master Gardener Association.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Sept.21 with presentations and educational booths from 10 a.m. to noon. The library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Register in advance at hcplibrary.org.

Winter clothing giveaway Saturday

GREENFIELD – Pick up free winter coats, hats, gloves and more in a giveaway event.

Coats of Many Colors is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 14 at Steak ‘N Shake, 2121 N. State St., Greenfield. The event is hosted by Apostolic Pentecostal Church and includes items of all sizes, from infant to adult. Contact Pastor Joseph Riggs with questions at 317-496-6845.

Fortville to host downtown festival

FORTVILLE – A free concert and street festival are coming to downtown Fortville next Wednesday, Sept 18.

Visit the ’Ville is an event hosted by BeLocal, a magazine that is designed to help connect residents to local businesses. Kids music with Annie’s Jam begins at 5:30 p.m., with Tommy Whiskers at 7 p.m. The event will close Main Street between Broadway and Staat streets from 4-9 p.m. There will be balloon twisting, princesses, face painting, local public safety officials and vehicles and more.
