Prep roundup: Marauders win 5-set thriller at Brebeuf

In a marathon five-set match at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School, Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over the Braves Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon (10-3) won by set scores of 24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12.

Brebeuf dropped to 8-4.

For the Marauders, Sierra Holverson had 15 kills, 15 digs and three service aces. Alivia Morgan had 17 kills and six blocks.

Olivia Johnson totaled 13 kills and Jaycee Jones had 10.

Aubry Dowling accumulated 32 digs. Setter Ava Whitmore had 57 assists and 10 digs. Avery Delello added 10 digs.

Mt. Vernon (10-3, 2-0) returns to action Thursday with a home Hoosier Heritage Conference match against Class 4A No. 2 Yorktown (11-2, 3-0).

Royals win fourth conference match

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team improved to 12-3 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-Eastern Conference with a 3-0 victory at Union (2-6, 0-3).

The Royals won by set scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-11.

Eastern Hancock will play host to Class 2A No. 3 Wapahani (11-1, 2-0) in a conference match tonight.

Greenfield-Central wins battle of Cougars

The Greenfield-Central Cougars volleyball team defeated the host Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars 3-1 Tuesday.

G-C won by set scores of 25-11, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20 and improved to 10-4 on the season. GCA dropped to 6-7.

Greenfield-Central (10-4, 1-1) is back in action Thursday with a Hoosier Heritage Conference match at Delta (3-4, 1-3).

Boys soccer

Dragons win conference match

New Palestine’s boys soccer team jumped out early with five first-half goals in an 8-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference victory over visiting New Castle (1-7, 0-3) Tuesday.

Cole Christopher, Paxton Holmes and Eli Martin had two goals each. Noah Diaz de Leon and Will Bardonner had the other New Palestine goals.

Christopher, Diaz de Leon, and Holmes had two assists each. Hector Medrano and Martin also had assists.

New Palestine (4-4, 2-1) continues conference play Thursday at Shelbyville (4-4, 1-0).

Cougars lose to Eagles

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team lost 4-1 to Delta in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match at home Tuesday.

Delta scored three first-half goals.

The Cougars lone goal, also in the first half, came from Axel Valladares and was assisted by Ryan Dietz.

G-C dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the HHC. Delta improved to 5-3 and 1-2.

Greenfield-Central travels to Mt. Vernon (5-2-1, 4-0) on Thursday.

Girls golf

Eastern wins match over Tri

Eastern Hancock’s girls golf team picked up the victory at Tri on Tuesday.

The Royals shot a 243. Tri did not have enough players for a team score.

Eastern Hancock will play at Morristown Thursday.
