Oktoberfest set for New Pal Saturday

NEW PALESTINE – Oktoberfest is coming to New Palestine this weekend.

Set for noon to 10 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 14, the event will feature a parade on Main Street at 11 a.m., live music by Der Polkatz at 7 p.m., traditional German food, beer and wine, and a root beer garden with bounce houses for children. Chalkfest set for Sept. 21

GREENFIELD — “Life is a Jungle” is the theme of the annual Chalkfest coming to downtown Greenfield.

Set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21 in the downtown Living Alley on North Street, the event encourages chalking for a chance to win prizes.

Walk-up registration is accepted; chalk will be provided at the alley or bring your own. Cost is $5-$15. The event is hosted by Hancock County Arts. Learn more or register in advance at hancockcountyarts.org.

Car show, fish fry returns to Mt. Comfort Church

GREENFIELD – The eighth annual Car Show and Fish Fry returns to Mt. Comfort Church this Saturday, Sept. 14.

The car show is noon to 3p.m. with registration at $20 per car (non-judged registration is $5 per car). The meal is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at $12 per meal for pre-orders. The meal includes hand-battered cod, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, dessert and drink. Day of the event price is $14. Register and pre-order at mtcomfortchurch.com. Free, live music coming to outdoor venues

GREENFIELD – Grab a camping chair and head to an outdoor venue this September for a free outdoor concert.

On Sept. 21, Depot Street Park in downtown Greenfield will host Bridges Band, an Eagles tribute, with opening act Hired Guns Band.

In New Palestine, local oldies tribute group 45 RPM perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 on East Main Street.

The Blues, Beer & BBQ series continues in Cumberland Sept. 28, but this time with a rock and roll twist. “Rocktember” features Six Figures, Rockin Horse Band and That ‘90s Band from 6-10 p.m. in downtown Cumberland.

Libraries to host events for adults

GREENFIELD – Several events are open for adults in September at local libraries.

The Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield will host genealogy open research Sept. 11; Writers Helping Writers Sept. 19; Crafternoon Club Sept. 17; and a computer workshop for “absolute beginners” Sept. 16. Learn how to avoid identity theft and scams in a special workshop Sept. 30. Hancock County Master Gardeners will host workshops on food preservation and harvest Sept. 21. Local car show to benefit children’s hospital

MAXWELL – A local company is hosting a family-friendly car show this Saturday, Sept. 14, with proceeds benefiting Riley Hospital for Children,

The Hoosier Hot Wheels Car Show is 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at Peak Garage Equipment, 212 N. Main St., Maxwell. All children will receive a Hot Wheel toy. Prizes will be awarded to participants in the car show, and dash plaques will be given to the first 100 cars. For more, visit peak-ge.com.
